We're lucky here at Wyboston Lakes Resort, our 380-acre site is home to a nature reserve meaning we see all kinds of wildlife and fauna on a daily basis. One of our gardeners Paul has written a beautiful piece to highlight exactly what's here to see.
At the end of August, we welcomed some new permanent residents to the site. 4 super active colonies of bees! Moving them was quite a tricky process! They were put to bed the night before and the hive sealed up to ensure they were all safe, then the hives were strapped up and put on a trailer. By the time they reached the site, they were slightly miffed, because of the enforced incarceration and a slightly bumpy journey. Guard bees on release were looking to defend their home against any causes of their grief, so for the next few days, we left them to settle and adjust their GPS to their new home.
The Gravel Pit Restaurant and Bar overlooking the lagoon/lake welcomes common terns every year which spend all day circling the lake, diving for fish. The lake also has resident great crested grebes and they soon will be carrying their young on their back out on the water. The reeds and the shrubs around the edges of the lake are full of song from warblers and blackcaps and on hot days look out for carp sunbathing beneath the surface.
