I can hear some of you groaning that this is all going to be about a positive mental attitude but read on I might surprise you.
What is positivity, is it the practice of always being happy, looking at life as if your glass is always half full rather than half empty or is it more about choosing behaviour that supports you.
I count myself as one of life's more positive people and this does not mean that I am always happy or that I lead a blessed or charmed life, personally, I choose to reframe life daily and support myself through whatever I am going through, in whatever way I can.
Positivity for me starts with kindness, I should be my own best friend before I can be anyone else's and curb any negative language I use internally, as my body listens. Not a positive start to the day when I look in the mirror and think I look drained or tired, would I say that to a friend? Affirmations and practicing gratitude can help, but just thinking good morning gorgeous or hello fabulous instead does improve how I feel.
There is real power in a word, when my mum lost my dad after 60 years of marriage, heartbreakingly she said one day, I miss being called darling, after a blooming good cleansing cry, we set up a routine on Alexa called good morning when prompted Alexa would say, "Good morning Darling hope you slept well", and then go into a routine of the news and switching to her favourite radio station, Do what you can in whatever way you can.
I love to laugh out loud so instead of quiet meditation there are days when laughter meditation is my go-to, if you can do this as a group it's amazing as laughter is infectious. I love to sing like no one is listening using all the wrong lyrics which is my superpower or sometimes making them up to suit my mood, this supercharges whatever emotion I need to either let go of i.e. negative emotions or bring in energy if I have a big day and I am a bit low. There are days like today when I am so stressed out and spiralling, nothing but breathwork will do... In through the nose and hold and release all the spiralling and tension and hold repeat 2 minutes is enough and the more you can do the more it helps. There is no one size fits all, just kindness and making the time to work on myself first before helping others.
I am blessed that I do something I love as a career and that I have great friends and family both in and out of work, so when life is tough, I lean into that safety net of human kindness and if I am the best me I can be today, I am the safety net that can help my tribe bounce back to positivity.
Be Fabulous …
Love and light.
