  • Don't forget your Gadgets

Leisure Activities GadgetsYou set off from home and realise that you have forgotten to bring your favourite book, game or gadget. Our reception team are committed to making your stay as enjoyable as possible.  Please do not hesitate to contact them should you require any information.  We also offer the following items:

    • Useful Stuff: umbrellas, 'driving range' golf club, 'health club' towels
    • Reading: newspapers in lounge
    • Games: cards and board games

  • Don't forget your Binoculars

Leisure Activities NatureThe Begwary Brook Nature Reserve offers attractive marsh and open pools, next to the meandering River Great Ouse. Riverside marshes such as this are now rare because of large scale drainage over recent years.

This area was once a large marsh fed by the River Ouse, but in the 1960s gravel extraction created a small lake and a series of pools in the small area of marsh which survives today. In summer, dragonflies and damselflies hawk over the marsh, looking for an easy meal.

    • Winter: reed bunting and foxes
    • Spring: marsh marigold, cuckoo flower, orange tip butterflies, sedge, reed/willow warblers, and blackcaps
    • Summer: wild angelica, purple loosestrife, marsh woundwort, grass snakes and kingfishers
    • Autumn: goldcrests

  • Don't forget your Walking Boots

Leisure Activities WalkWalking Trail: (Distance: 4.47 miles / 7.2 km : Duration: 2.5 hours : Starts at: Eaton Socon, ends at: Little Paxton.) This route is part of the Ouse Valley Way which is 26 miles/41.6km along the River Great Ouse and the countryside surrounding it. The route can be broken up into shorter, circular walks, with this one being the first.

You will need to be careful near the locks and gravel pits as they are deep and are not suitable for swimming. Although public footpaths exist for part of the way along the Eastern Bank, both downstream from Roxton and upstream from Eaton Socon, they do not connect and require extensive road walking and are also prone to significant flooding.

  • Don't forget your Joggers

Leisure Activities JoggersMany of our joggers like to jog into the historic market town of St Neots via the picturesque village of Eaton Socon. But if running on roads is starting to bore you and you like getting muddied up, try our off-road jogging trail; the trail to the Wildlife Trust Nature Reserve, which offers attractive marsh and open pools next to the meandering River Great Ouse ... you are bound to pass a few wild rabbits or anglers.
